What Uluwatu is like
Pecatu, Bingin, Padang-Padang and Balangan are surf villas and cliff rentals, many of them managed properties where the owner is away. Neighbours are far apart, there is no through traffic, and the sessions here are usually unhurried because nobody is going anywhere afterwards.
Setting up in a room here
Cliff villas give you plenty of space, along with dust and wind. We set up indoors, away from the open terrace, on a table we can cover properly. Red cliff dust gets everywhere, so the room gets closed and the surface gets fresh barrier film. Check your power too: some of the smaller surf houses run on an inverter that struggles with anything more than a fan.
Price and deposit
Quoting works the same everywhere in Bali: by request. Send the reference, the size in centimetres and the placement, and the artist replies with an estimate. A 40% deposit confirms the date and is not refunded if the session is cancelled.

Send a photo or drawing of what you want, the size in centimetres, and the body part it goes on. Those three things make up the estimate, and without them nobody can give you a real number.

You get an estimate for that piece and the time it needs in the chair. Ask anything you like before you commit. Nothing is booked until you say yes.

Questions from Uluwatu
The lane to my villa in Bingin is too narrow for a car. Does that work?
Yes, with a bit of planning. Send a pin and tell us the last point a car can reach, usually the top of the lane or a warung on the main road. The kit is portable, so the walk down is fine as long as we know about it before the day rather than at the bottom of the hill.
I surf every morning here. When can I get back in the water?
Give it two weeks minimum, and longer if the piece is large. Sea water on a fresh tattoo is the single most common way a good piece goes wrong in Bali. If you are here for a surf trip, the sensible order is surf first and tattoo at the end, and we will happily hold the design until then.
