What Canggu is like
Canggu is mostly rented villas and small compounds, and a lot of tenants are here on three, six or twelve month stays. Berawa and Batu Bolong have the densest villa clusters; Pererenan and Tibubeneng are more spread out behind the rice fields. Almost every booking here is a private villa where the client is the only person in the room.
Setting up in a room here
Villas in Canggu usually give us what a session needs: a dining table, a chair without arms, a socket close by and a room that can be closed off. The two things worth checking before the date are light and air conditioning. An open-air living room does not work for a tattoo: insects and dust do not belong anywhere near an open wound, so we set up in a room that shuts.
Price and deposit
Quoting works the same everywhere in Bali: by request. Send the reference, the size in centimetres and the placement, and the artist replies with an estimate. A 40% deposit confirms the date and is not refunded if the session is cancelled.

Send the reference, the size and the placement
Send a photo or drawing of what you want, the size in centimetres, and the body part it goes on. Those three things make up the estimate, and without them nobody can give you a real number.

You get an estimate for that piece and the time it needs in the chair. Ask anything you like before you commit. Nothing is booked until you say yes.

Questions from Canggu
I am renting a villa in Berawa for a month. Can you tattoo me there?
Yes, that is exactly the booking we are set up for. We bring the machine, sterile single-use needles, ink, barrier film and a sharps container, and we set up on your dining table in a room that closes. All we need from the villa is a chair, a socket and decent light; if the light is poor, we bring our own lamp.
Can I get tattooed and still surf the next day?
No, and this is the one thing that catches people out in Canggu. A fresh tattoo is an open wound, and sea water, pool water and sand are how it gets infected. Plan for at least two weeks out of the water, so if you are here to surf, book the tattoo for the end of your trip rather than the start.
